Abbey Lincoln has passed on today in New York. She turned 80 barely a week ago. It’s reported that she was in failing health and was in a nursing home. Many will say that Jazz lost a legend. I think its bigger than that. We lost a root. But she planted seeds along the way and there have been blooms. Just as there should be.

Singer, Songwriter, Actress (Nothing But A Man, Mo’ Better Blues)and Activist.

Ms. Lincoln worked with the greats of Jazz including Sonny RollinsEric DolphyColeman HawkinsJackie McLeanClark TerryStanley TurrentineWynton KellyCedar WaltonJoe LovanoPat MethenyRon CarterMiles Davis. Her discography extends from the mid 1950s into 2007.
