I’m thinking about ending it…

The station that is… (don’t panic) After 11 years with all of the costs and time involved … I’m really debating whether or not I should continue this internet station… It’s been one hell of a blast DJ’ing the live sets and programming the shows… WBPM NetRADIO has allowed me the opportunity to work with…

Valentines Day

View image | gettyimages.com So, once again its “Valentine’s Day“ Ever wonder who was this Valentine dude and was this person really all that “mushy”? Did a little digging and it seems that the Catholic Church recognizes about three different saints named either Valentinus or Valentine. One line goes that Roman emperor Claudius II decreed single…

If You Could…

Internet radio music lovers, if you could control the “Wayback Machine”, who’s music would you bring back? Minnie? Luther? James? Vesta? Who? I got to thinking about that as I was hunting down new music for upcoming sets. I started thinking back to what got me listening to certain artists even at the young age that…

So…

So… Spring has sprung and summer is knocking on our doors… The summer mix set is coming. Working hard on it. Those of us who love spoken words lost a voice this morning. Maya Angelou passed on today as she continues her journey. May we all listen to the message of her words…

The World is A Ghetto

The World Is A Ghetto ~ Or so it would seem with all of the drama going on all over the place lately… Disappearing planes, Putin putting the moves on the Ukraine (w0nder what he was like as a kid huh?). Politicians demonizing those less fortunate. Crazy. (Why is The Temptations’ “Ball of Confusion playing in…

Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

When you hear “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” you know what that implies right? So how come so many young artists fall for the game where someone claims to be a “manager” only to turn out to be about exploiting the individual seeking to make their way into the music business? And, why do those naive…

Just wanted to go to the movies…

“We just wanted to go to the movies!!” Is what the lady said as the news hounds interviewed her and the other survivors of that midnight madness at the movie theater over in Aurora. Surely someone will be asking at some point “What were you doing when…”. I know what I was doing…. Sitting up…

Rant

Thought’s that crossed my mind while driving and listening to music… I warned ya… If this sounds like you…I don’t care. Ladies, do the planet a favor. Put your war paint on before you get behind the wheel. Don’t tie up traffic driving in the middle lane 20 mph slower than the rest of the world…

The Recipe… Part 1

Here’s a few tips:
Don’t go for “cute”. Cute don’t stay cute for long if you discover you brought something that sounds like crap.
Consider how long you will be wearing the head gear. Look for comfort.
Consider what you will be doing while wearing the cans.

Where you hear…

You New Yorkers out there remember back in the day when WBLS used to have Frankie Crocker do the station call letters in that booming echoing voice? “WBLS…The Total Black Experience In Sound Where You Hear…” Then in full blown stereo he’d rattle off like 400 artists names for what seemed like 20 minutes listing…

Wow…pt. 2

Wow…pt.2 goes like this… I get an email with a link to an article about what I posted recently here and it turns out very interesting indeed. So after all of the fuss it seems that Sprint put the word out to the OEMS to get that software off of the devices a.s.a.p. Looks like…

Tha’ Jazzzz….

Tha’ Jazzz… Hey! Talking about 5 hrs of Wa’ D’s goodies. Tha’ Jazz… Some interesting stuff in the latest set. A good set to check out if you like hearing songs with some serious Bass lines or are an aspiring drummer looking to check out some deep drum cuts. Or maybe if you are into …

Ohhh Vesta…

(That’s what I said when the news got to me …) Ohhh Vesta  not you too… Seems like everyday signs of our mortality being shown to us along our travels. Vesta Williams showed us how beautiful sound could be. Vesta caught my attention with “Don’t You Blow A Good Thing”. My reaction was “Who Dat!?!?”…

Connections & Disconnections

You know that saying “Small World”? It’s all about connections and disconnections. For example, consider a band like Zapp. Started by Lester and Roger Troutman, the group grew into the powerhouse most of us know as Zapp. But, before that it was Roger and the Human Body. Through a childhood friendship with Bootsy Collins that…

Before Sept. 11th 2001

Okay so I see on TV all of these shows replaying the nightmare that was 9/11. In the mix there was a show going over the events in people’s lives of the day before. The show reminded me of something that happened two days before Sept. 11th 2001. So here goes… Prior to that day,…

What are you doing?

That’s what bounced around the inside of my skull earlier today. “What are you doing?” Huh? I’m driving around in the crazy Tampa traffic. That’s what I was doing when the question floated up. The thought came right after the notion that there is absolutely no reason on this earth that a town this small…

Rest in Peace Nick Ashford

Dear Valerie, To you and the family our deepest regrets. Words can’t even begin to express… Thanks to you both, the lessons of your music made me aware of some of the things I deserve in life…. Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson are definitely a pair of the “unsung” who’ve crafted hits for a number…

New Music Set Today!

This set is a more “genre” blending” in nature so don’t be surprised how you will hear Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks, Soul II Soul, The O’Jays, Brothers Johnson, Prince, George Duke, Cheb Tarik, Common, A Tribe Call Quest, Jill Scott, Dred Stock, Mutabaruka, Parliament, Whodini, One Way, The Temptations, Cameo, Raydio (remember Ray Parker? One of the best guitarists!), Anthony Santos, Amp Fiddler, Tony Lee, Ovasoul7, Gotan Project, Ron Basejam, The Demetrios Project, Marques Wyatt as the sneak into your speakers. Okay?

So, about the music playing now…

Now to answer a few questions….

No you won’t find that version of “Skin I’m In” anywhere else. Sorry!
Nope, that Tony Toni Tone remix if “Feels Good” will only be played here.
I dunno why I mixed Parliament’s “Night of the Thumpasaurus Peoples” with the Masters At Work mix of Rain/Give It Up (A Lil Louis Painting). It just felt right.
Yes that mix of Raze’s “Break For Love” into DJ Languages “Close To You” does seem very visual in an aural sense. Hahaha!! Uhuh! That’s what I saw in my mind’s eye as it played too!
I dunno. Let me know…in the meantime sign up as a VIP and lose the commercial breaks.

Funk N Jazz…

At the very top is a never heard before remix of Cameo’s “Skin I’m In” with a twist of J-Boogie dusted on followed by a taste of the GAP Band’s “I don’t Believe You Want To Get Up and Dance”. That’s going to lead into an interesting blend of Janet J’s Nasty (Cool Summer Mix) and Slope’s Funk. There’s more but I’m not saying (too much typin’ man!)

“New music added today”

You will hear cuts by:
Angela Johnson, Ursula Rucker, Kim English, DJ Spinna,Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, Sagat, Barbara Tucker, Joyce Sims, The Temptations, Keith Thompson, Beenie Man, Masters at Work, Voices, Ed The Red, DJ Andre Allen, Ital Foods, Blu Mar Ten, Marques Wyatt, Sister Sledge, Sole Fusion, Roland Clark, Flowriders, Johnny Corporate, Dennis Ferrer, Kerri Chandler, Mark Farina, Deep Bros., Bassmental, Lawnchair Generals, DJ Spettro, Vibezelect, Lady Bug Mecca, Jay Tripwire, Omega, Charles Moui, Club Artists United, Urban Soul, Harmony Funk, Marshall Jefferson, Chucky Sly, Orange Muse, Alexander East, Moodswings, Versus, The Ananda Project, Galaxy People and many more
