3 Days to go…

3 Days to go And then we’ll see… There will be some changes but I’m not at liberty to tell. You’ll just have to check back often… I’m just sayin’… © 2015, WBPM NetRADIO.com. 2004 – 2019 All rights reserved. Duplication without permission is not permitted.

I’m thinking about ending it…

The station that is… (don’t panic) After 11 years with all of the costs and time involved … I’m really debating whether or not I should continue this internet station… It’s been one hell of a blast DJ’ing the live sets and programming the shows… WBPM NetRADIO has allowed me the opportunity to work with…

The Other Duke…George Duke

The Other Duke…George Duke   Our most recent Duke, George, left us Monday August 5th 2013 and with his passing a gap in sound has been created. I’d like to send my deepest condolences to those who knew and loved him best. I know I miss him. That man over there on the right played…

The Recipe… Part 1

Here’s a few tips:
Don’t go for “cute”. Cute don’t stay cute for long if you discover you brought something that sounds like crap.
Consider how long you will be wearing the head gear. Look for comfort.
Consider what you will be doing while wearing the cans.

Where you hear…

You New Yorkers out there remember back in the day when WBLS used to have Frankie Crocker do the station call letters in that booming echoing voice? “WBLS…The Total Black Experience In Sound Where You Hear…” Then in full blown stereo he’d rattle off like 400 artists names for what seemed like 20 minutes listing…

It’s about TIME!!!

They’rrrrrre baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!! It’s about time. I mean it’s about The Time. Now calling themselves “The Original 7ven”, the original members of The Time – Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, “JellyBean” Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir and Jerome  have rejoined forces Here’s a peek at their latest off of “Condensate” . The track is called…

Tha’ Jazzzz….

Tha’ Jazzz… Hey! Talking about 5 hrs of Wa’ D’s goodies. Tha’ Jazz… Some interesting stuff in the latest set. A good set to check out if you like hearing songs with some serious Bass lines or are an aspiring drummer looking to check out some deep drum cuts. Or maybe if you are into …

What are you doing?

That’s what bounced around the inside of my skull earlier today. “What are you doing?” Huh? I’m driving around in the crazy Tampa traffic. That’s what I was doing when the question floated up. The thought came right after the notion that there is absolutely no reason on this earth that a town this small…

Rest in Peace Nick Ashford

Dear Valerie, To you and the family our deepest regrets. Words can’t even begin to express… Thanks to you both, the lessons of your music made me aware of some of the things I deserve in life…. Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson are definitely a pair of the “unsung” who’ve crafted hits for a number…

So, about the music playing now…

Now to answer a few questions….

No you won’t find that version of “Skin I’m In” anywhere else. Sorry!
Nope, that Tony Toni Tone remix if “Feels Good” will only be played here.
I dunno why I mixed Parliament’s “Night of the Thumpasaurus Peoples” with the Masters At Work mix of Rain/Give It Up (A Lil Louis Painting). It just felt right.
Yes that mix of Raze’s “Break For Love” into DJ Languages “Close To You” does seem very visual in an aural sense. Hahaha!! Uhuh! That’s what I saw in my mind’s eye as it played too!
I dunno. Let me know…in the meantime sign up as a VIP and lose the commercial breaks.

G’bye Phoebe Snow…

Her’s was a voice that was in that class where Minnie played.
Nooo… one could never be mistaken for the other. They do not sound the same… One was just as pure as the other.. each as rare…just as unique. When you heard Minnie, you knew it. You didn’t have to think about it. You simply knew it from the inside out.
That’s also how Phoebe hits you too. Once you hear her voice, next time there’s no mistaking. It can be gutsy one second and blasting through four octaves the next. Recognition comes subconsciously.
And, you will smile.

The Recipe…Part 2

Recently I’ve been asked what kind of speakers I use to listen to the station. Generally, I use a now 10 year old Logitech 4.1 speaker system connected to my main PC. When I am creating my mixes I use a pair of KRK ST6 Studio Monitors. I do my quality checks on a set of 250 watt 4 ohm Acoustic model 626 Studio Monitors.
Do you need all that?
No.
