Yesterday I mentioned in a post that I would be adding 100 tracks for today. I was off by a little..its like 204.

The first set started at 1pm Eastern (US) and was prompted by me staring at my 3 basses thinking “I really need to play more”. I started thinking of the songs I used to play and that’s how I wound up with 200+ songs!

These sets add up to 25 hours of music. A little of this and that. From Afrobeat to Fusion with a liberal sprinklin of House all over. There’s R&B classics, Fusion favorites, some indie cuts and of course plenty of remixes in there. (Hurry! tune in NOW!)

The list of artists reads like a Who’s Who in the recording world. I have also included a cut where Stanley Clarke and Stuart Copeland (The Police) joined up. That’s part of a set where I feature songs with great bass lines. Some well known and some maybe not so well known. There is a rare Passport cut off of the Infinity Machine LP in there as well as classic Lil Louis and more.

Tune in, Turn it up and go do something fun (or let the groove help you get through the day).

I hope you enjoy it!

P.S.: That picture over there of the bass is not one of my basses. Mine are nicer looking! Hmmm maybe I’ll post a shot of them sometime….

Oh yeah one more thing. I’m trying to figure out what some of your are using to hear the music. Do me a HUGE favor and drop me a note. I want to see who listens at work or home or where ever and what are you using to tune in with (cell phone, Ipad, laptop, PC) . Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help!

Wow…

p-funk's garry "star child" shider

Gary Shider….

Know who that is? P-funk fans know.

Okay… for those of you who’ve seen Parliament/Funkadelic in action over the years, remember the dude in the diaper? That’s Gary Shider. He was musical director of the band(s) as well as a signature guitarist.

He passed during June while myself, like many others, had my nose to the proverbial grindstone tryin’ to get over the proverbial hump.

My deepest sympathies to family, friends and fans.

So, what’s a signature guitarist? That’s a guitarist whose sound is so distinct that when you hear it you either know who is playing or it helps to immediately identify the person or the group the person plays in. There are signature musicians who play on other instruments as well. Marcus Miller, Stanley Clark, Miles Davis, Stuart Copeland (Police), Gato Barbieri, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Buddy Miles, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Larry Graham to name a very few.

Some people create a signature sound via the production of music. DJs do this all the time. ¬†Some even add (enhance?) to the music via their production or arrangement skills. Adding horns where there were none originally creating “sweet spots” for example. Gary Snider did that too.

Funkateers..remember Maggot Brain? Michael didn’t always play alone did he? How about Up For The Downstroke? Yanno…I think that’s the cut that caught my ear. “Testify” was okay but I kinda took it as more of the music the “old folk” listened to.. so …yeah…Downstroke did it for me. But rather than drag your eyes across my aural memories… Here’s something to check out if you ever wanted to know anything about P-Funk. I found this page on a Duke site. So check it quick. No telling how long it will be there okay? The page is called Motherpage…Making You Funk The P-Funk

Scroll through and let me know what you think. There will be a test on it!!

C-c-c-c-c-changes (Pt. 2)

Earth

It’s been a real busy kind of month so far. Here’s where things stand as of now.

Seems some automaton in the Live365 infrastructure took the money needed to renew the package I had before I could stop them. I was hoping to get a different package that was less costly. Naturally when it happened I felt a “sting”. Well, I got busy trying to make up the loss. Not quite there yet. But here’s the plan. I am still working to move to a new package. In preparation for the change, new playlists are being uploaded (right now actually). The old playlists were 64K MP3PRO formatted files. The files being uploaded right now are 96K Mp3PRO files. What’s the difference? Basically better sound quality (Imagine that …right?).

New tracks are also in the pipeline. They are liable to turn up here very soon. So keep listening.

Thanks to new listeners in (in no particular order!):

Houston & Luftkin, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Anaheim, South Gate, Beverly Hills & Glendale, California; Alamoosa, Colorado; Edmund, Oklahoma; Evansville, Indiana; Bloomington & Chicago Illinois; Pittsburgh & Philadelphia PA.; Atlanta, Marietta & Lawrenceville, Georgia; Rock Hill SC; Charlotte; Washington,DC; S. Plainfield, NJ; New York City (Hi You Guys!); Albany, New Hartford & White Plains, NY; Brocton, Mass; Oromocto, Canada; Cusco, Peru; La Paz, Bolivia; Bogota & Cucuta, Columbia; Cancun Mexico (I could really use a trip there about now..how about you?); Basildon & London UK; Hoorn, Netherlands; Prague; Zurich, Vienna, Madrid, Ljubljana & Radovljica, Slovenia; Budapest; Warsaw & Rzeszow, Poland; Klaipeda, Lithuania; Moscow; Istanbul; Athens; Bangalore; Bangkok; Cebu City, Phillipines, Perth, AU and last but in no way least Sapporo Japan.

I am deeply thankful to all of you for listening. Please listen often…now…

GO BUY A T-SHIRT (or something) Here !!!

Your Vote Counts!!

I was digging through the Live365 newsletter and this gem popped up:

“Your Vote Counts
Nominate your favorite stations!

Nominate some feature-worthy stations you think deserves some time in the spotlight. Email liveeditor@live365.com with your top 3 stations.

Top nominees will be listed in next month’s newsletter”

And then the sound of rusty gears started turning….(painful I tellya…). I figured, I would let you know and if you were so kind you could drop a line to the editor ( liveeditor@live365.com )of the newletter letting them know how you love the music and how it flows non-stop and is soooo very office friendly and how even your dog wags its tail to the beat and how the neighbors love you since now you blast WBPM NetRADIO while you work out and how the world seems better when you play WBPM NetRADIO and it creates the perfect ambience to chill out to and how birds have stopped poopin on your car roof since you’ve started listening.

That last paragraph was subtle right? ūüėČ

DO OVAHHH!!!!

by on Apr.14, 2010, under Station Update, The Musings

Dennis Ferrer @ Movement 2009, 5/24/2009

Sometimes even I get caught up in the mad dash it seems….

Me!! Mr. Laidback Take It Slow As It Flow….

I was listening to my most recent post and discovered to my SHOCK a problem with some of the mixes and sound quality settings I was using for the latest program. (If you didn’t notice..GOOD!) Anyhow, I wanted to rip it down off the server immediately but was unable to. The situation sat on my brain like a ticked off elephant all day.

Finally when I got in I decided I couldn’t take it any more. (I was listening while checking e-mail and such).

I powered up the gear and got to work. What came out was an even better set (I think so anyway) that sounds a LOT better mixwise and sound quality wise (we won’t even go into it … let’s just say a setting had been uhh “omitted” causing WBPM NetRADIO to sound like all the rest ¬†of the internet broadcasters).

So the set is actually different in that there are more artists, more tracks, BETTER mixes and it sounds GREAT. Who is in the set? Hmmph…. you read that earlier post of a previous playlist? You want me to go through the agony of typing something like that again? You WRONG!!!!!

I will say this, the set is tight, it flows as I intended it to and there is a variety of sound in there. I did reach back and drop in a cut by Shiela E. I dropped others but I am getting “typer’s cramp”.

Hope your world is not spinning out of control and if so…all we can do is hold on tight.

Yanno?

(P.S.: That is NOT me in the picture!! That’s the great Dennis Ferrer! Oh and that set? It’s on now…)

New Set Coming Today

by on Apr.09, 2010, under Station Update, The Music

Winter Music Conference, Live!
Image by Premshree Pillai via Flickr

Hey,

Things have been happening. Drove to Miami. Friend and I were to drop into some of the WMC functions. He wasn’t feeling too good so we canceled out. Drove back and I got sick!! Some kinda bug going around. Feeling a tad better now tho’. Pushing up a new set to start this afternoon so tune in.

This set is the so called “B” side set. Back when vinyl was the main method of pushing sound out to the masses the record “they” wanted you to hear was on the “A” side and most often the so called filler was on the “B” side. Ironically a number of times the “B” side was the real keeper. Well this latest set is a 4hr mix of music that contains a number of so called “B” side surprises. I dare you to pick them out.

I had second thoughts about the store. I am looking for a new supplier of goodies for those of you looking to pick up WBPM NetRADIO gear. If you know anyone email dj@wbpmnetradio.com . You might get an official T-Shirt. If you want to see some of the latest designs check out the link below. Gotta run, I am supposed to be passing out biz cards for my web design business!

The Saturday Night Set

by on Apr.04, 2010, under The Music

I’ve been meaning to do this for ages….

I just hated all the typing involved..okay I can be lazy…I have to admit, I suck at typin’ so this typing up a list of (have to be over) 100 songs is an act of pure dedication to the cause….

(Feelin sympathetic yet?)

Here’s a partial listing of the set that is playing now … The entire set is 14hrs of non-stop mixe. What’s the big fuss about the songs? pay attention to what happens between them. That is my favorite part. that other place in time that passes while one song ends and the next begins.¬† This is where I do most of my work. I specialize in transitions to some degree. I look to make the songs – no matter how disparate- sound as if they belong together. As though they were recorded to be played in that order … Listen for a while..you will, I suspect, note the eclectic nature of the set? No?
