by on Dec.20, 2011, under Station Update, The Music

You New Yorkers out there remember back in the day when WBLS used to have Frankie Crocker do the station call letters in that booming echoing voice?

“WBLS…The Total Black Experience In Sound Where You Hear…” Then in full blown stereo he’d rattle off like 400

Kraftwerk: Computer World (1981), first popula...

WBLS credited with first popularizing Kraftwerk in the U.S.

artists names for what seemed like 20 minutes listing all who were heard on the station (sounding good while doing it mind you … Remember that? One of these days I’m going to do that (yeahhhh rrrrrrrrrrrright!!) But until then…

Where you’ll hear…

So…here’s the latest playing on WBPM NetRADIO

by on Nov.29, 2011, under Station Update

Sooo…

Ain't Nothin' Goin' on But the Rent

Dem bellies full eh? Now what? Back to the grind right?

How to get back into the swing of things?

Here’s a hint: Image online music with so much goodness.

Okay you twisted my arm!

1 of a kind Non-stop remixes featuring Stevie Wonder, EW&F, The Brides of Funkenstein, Moss, Change, Loose Ends, Gwen Guthrie, Bobby Lyle, Slave, Fatback Band, GAP Band, Jazzanova, KC & The Sunshine Band, Art of Noise, Dubmatix, SNAP, Buju Banton , Black Uhuru, Emo, Moonrock, Soulstice, B.T. Express, Joey Youngman, MC Solaar, Ron Carter, War,  A Tribe Called Quest, The Temptations, Con Funk Shun, Aretha Franklin, Funkdadelic, Levert, The Isley Brothers, Freddie Jackson, Diana Ross, Kim Hill, Dorothy Moore, Walt, Bobby Womack, Maze feat. Frankie Beverly, L.T.D., Barry White, Atlantic Starr, Midnight Star and quite a few others. And that’s only some of the latest music playing on WBPM NetRADIO. Some of the sets have a decidedly Old School feel to them. I guess that’s from going through my library of 12″ singles the other day. Ran up on a cut by Kwame & The New Beginning. I forgot I had that song! So I dropped it into “Set It Off” by Strafe, did something to “That’s the Way (I like It)” by KC & the Band. But you’ll have to listen to hear what it was that I did. The Slow Jam set is rocking too if I say so myself. Hearing Freddie Jackson again reminds me of the time I saw him performing in Eisenhower Pk out on Long Island years back. Crazy day. That’s all I’m saying.

But enough of that. You should be listening now. No telling what you’re missing if you’re not. Whatever is on I know it’s better than what’s on that other radio station. (Trust me. I know these things.)

Stay Sane,

DJ

P.S. Check out the advertisers. Might be something there that would make a nice gift for someone or yourself! ;)

P.P.S. Scroll down on the latest on Buju Banton’s Benefit Concert

One more thing: Was cool that Heavy D and Nick Ashford got props during Soul Train Awards…Great seeing The Ti- oops! I mean the Original 7even perform. It’s about time! Shoot! I heard what Gladys said. Did you?

But why no mention of Vesta? I’m jus’ sayin’.
